About

A person working on a woodworking project in a workshop, using a mallet and chisel on a piece of wood, with various woodworking tools and supplies on the workbench and window ledge.

Wood is more than a material — it’s a storyteller.
Every piece holds its own character; its grain and colour shaped by time, weather, and place.

Hi, I’m Sarah, an artisan woodcarver based by the sea in Cornwall.

I studied Historical Woodcarving and Gilding at the City and Guilds of London Art School, where I learned traditional techniques that remain at the heart of my work today. Each carving connects me to a long line of makers before me and to the living landscape that continues to inspire it.

Much of my work begins with stories — those found in folklore and nature, and those we carry in memory. I’m drawn to the links between people and place: the sea’s rhythm, the geometry within a leaf, the marks left by time and tide. Through carving, I explore how these elements intertwine to create something lasting and personal.

I work mainly with locally sourced and reclaimed timber, finishing each piece by hand with natural oils and waxes that reveal, rather than mask, the wood’s texture.

Each carving is a process of discovery — a dialogue between material and maker, story and surface — until the piece finds its own quiet voice.
